The MudPuddLeS is a three-piece original band blending raw punk energy, melodic folk storytelling, and power pop hooks into a sound that’s both nostalgic and refreshingly modern.
Formed in a small Nebraska basement in the late ‘80s by inseparable skater outcasts Tyson Arp (guitar/vocals) and Nicholas Pella (drums), MudPuddLeS started out with a mono cassette recorder, an old acoustic guitar, and a lot of teenage angst. Drawing inspiration from Violent Femmes, Dead Milkmen, and the chaos of Mojo Nixon, the duo carved out a sound that was lo-fi, emotionally charged, and defiantly theirs.
By 1993, they'd built a growing catalog of songs and started performing on the streets of Omaha and Lincoln. An acoustic bass was acquired—but they still needed someone to play it. Enter Angela (Zikas) Arp, who picked up the bass from scratch and filled out the band’s lineup, solidifying the MudPuddLeS as a full-fledged trio.
With electric instruments and an evolving sound, the band recorded and released two self-produced cassette albums in 1994 and 1996, blending their acoustic roots with a raw electric edge. As 1997 rolled around, life pulled them in different directions, and the band went quiet.
The Revival
In 2017, MudPuddLeS reunited and picked up right where they left off—creating, playing, and recording. With support from family, friends, and fans, they returned to the studio and began releasing new material, balancing their punk-folk past with more polished, genre-bending songwriting.
